Utah professor charged with child pornography

Full story details read here CNN- Utah Professor

A Utah professor was recently charged with child pornography. He claims he’s innocent of charges. This man has two children, but individuals that saw him looking at the photographs say that the pictures were not what a normal parent has.  The professor was caught on a plane by other passengers. Even though, this man was not taking the pictures, at that time, he still is viewing items that can be considered child abuse because at one point someone made the child act in a manner that is not appropriate. This severe form of abuse that the child has to endure is something no child should ever have to endure.

ACA shares resources in response to Penn State abuse allegations

The following is from ACA President Don W. Locke:
Penn State Charges Highlight the Need for Sexual Abuse Resources
The recent allegations of sexual abuse by a coach at Penn State highlight both the frequency (the US Department of Health and Human Services estimates that 1 out of every 100 children has been sexually abused) and the trauma that is experienced by survivors. Counselors are an important resource in promoting healing. I am pleased to share ACA resources that can help counselors assist survivors of sexual abuse - click here or go to http://www.counseling.org/Sub/dmh/sexualabuse.aspx

Who is a mandated reporter at WSU?

In response to the Penn State child abuse allegations, WSU President Ramaley issued a letter on 11/15/11 clarifying the mandated reporting responsibilities of faculty and staff on campus. Below you can read her message:

Differences between state laws

Child abuse laws very state by state, and confusion on who is suppose to report child abuse can be come complicated. Recently the president of Winona State University sent and email discussing what staff is suppose to do when they are not mandatory reporters. In order to clear up confusion, a link is being provided to help people in Minnesota understand what is considered maltreatment or abuse based on Minnesota laws.

Here is a link for Wisconsin that will help people understand where to seek out help if they suspect child abuse.

If there are any questions about what you should do Child help or Help guide have numbers for you to call. We have provided the link to each web site under the additional information section on the left hand side.

Time Line of Penn State Scandal

The impact of child abuse can be seen visibly based on recent developments at Penn State. Here is a link for the time line of the alleged abuse. Time Line.

The abuse of a child can effect many things such as a college reputation, potentially closing down organizations that provide help to under privileged children.  Here is a link to view a statement made by the orgnization that was founded by Jerry Sandusky who has recently been charged with child abuse Second Mile Website.

This whole situation has provided one positive things, which is that none of the victims names have been released at this time and it is allowing them to cope with the situation. Although, I believe that there are laws protecting the victims rights it is good  to see that news and people close to the victims are not sharing that information.
